Franz West was born in Vienna in 1947. His art practice started at the same time of Vienna Actionist movement, but if Actionists based their work on strong performances where, for instance, they would cover themselves in blood, West preferred artworks with a more light and fun content. The participation of the public and the critical interpretation of art were also constants in his work. To overturn the “don't touch” typical of museums, he created sculptures that the public could literally wear. As he used to say: “It doesn't matter what art looks like, but how it's used”.
