The American artist was born in Chicago in 1953. As he will later admit, his sister’s struggle with schizophrenia deeply affected his childhood. Ray tries to show us how things can be perceived in a ordinary way, but can be something completely different. The artist wants to overturn our point of view to remind us that we shall never judge a book by its cover. Nevertheless, despite his attempt to distort reality with his sculptures, the shape of Ray’s artworks is strictly controlled to create a specific experience of space, shaped by form and volume.
