Contemporary artists sometimes use the canvas as if they were magicians. With little tricks they show us reality… as it never is! Bridget Riley is an artist-illusionist. On her enormous white canvas, she has drawn small oval shapes. So far so good. But if we begin to move whilst staring intently at the painting, the dots seem to vibrate and rotate. Bridget Riley has introduced movement into her work through a very simple optical illusion. Its title, Static II, is deceiving. The canvas is anything but static; it seems alive!
