In ‘Six color sun vertical stack’, Diana Thater works with a series of photographs that NASA took of the sun using a very powerful telescope. She animated these photos, turning them into six videos, which are shown on six televisions placed one on top of the other. In the video, the subject is always the same – the sun, but reproduced in different colours, it rotates as if it were a planet. Thater thus shows us something that we won’t ever see in reality: the sun turning. But that’s not enough for her! To give visitors the impression of being immersed in the darkness of space, Thater put blue filters onto the windows of Punta della Dogana’s tower. The ultimate aim of her work is to manipulate nature and she succeeds well, transforming it without even touching it.
