The title of this artwork, made up of four sculptures, is Lemurenkopfe, literally “lemure's head”. But they don't really look like lemures, do they? Well, Franz West was not mistaken, “lemures” is actually a latin word used in Roman mythology to indicate the spirits of the dead, that hunted the alive at night. The monkey-like mammals take this name because of their big spirited eyes. The eyes however are missing in Franz West's lemures.
