Roni Horn’s glass cylinders conjure up an enchanting world. Without even knowing why, these strange sculptures attract us… What material are they made of? Horn uses blocks of glass: the top part is translucent, giving us the impression of being in front of containers of frozen water, or fjords, or small frozen lakes. Light reflects off the cylinders, making the glass glimmer with many shades. We too could be reflected on the glass as if we were curved around a well. Like Narcissus, we fall in love with our own reflected image and become removed from the rest of the world. What does water usually weigh? What form does it take? Does it have a colour? No not at all. But Horn gives it all of these characteristics. She deals with many themes, but principally, that of the double and of identity, which for her isn’t fixed in time, but continuously changes. And what is more changeable than water?
