1968 is a year that symbolises a period of social and political instability, of youth protests and of hope for a new social order that simultaneously took hold in several countries. The ’68 movement was mostly a student movement. Students sought a renewal of the political class and wanted to transform society in a way that reflected their aspirations and dreams. In France, the protest of the ‘French May’ broke out in universities. The protests also attracted American pacifists who, from the beginning of the 1960s, were protesting against the Vietnam War. In Italy, students occupied the Faculty of Architecture in Rome and the most violent clashes with the forces of order took place in Valle Giulia. Pasolini said: ‘The policemen were were poor. In these cases, flowers and friends are given to them’. With slogans such as: “don’t trust anyone who is older than thirty’, or ‘run kids run, the old world is just behind you’, the protesters contested the political and social principles of the previous generations.
