The American artist Jeff Koons was born in 1955. The son of an interior designer, He thus grew up close to objects and materials of various kinds. Immersed in this universe of surfaces, from wood to metal, Koons found that the one that fascinated him most was the mirror, which became one of the most characteristic elements of his artistic production. Though his use of the mirror and its properties, many of Jeff Koons’s works, among them ‘Hanging Heart’, interract with the visitor in a way that makes both the object and whoever is looking at it part of the work of art. In 1991, Koons married the famous porn diva Ilona Staller, known as Cicciolina. Inspired by his wife’s strong and distinctive personality, Koons launched his wide-ranging project ‘Made in Heaven’, which focuses on the theme of sexuality. In 1991, as part of this series, he made ‘Bourgeois Bust’: a white marble bust like those from classical antiquity, which represents Koons and Cicciolina immortalised in an intense moment of passion. In the twenty-first century Jeff Koons is consecrated as a star of contemporary art. His most famous and popular recent work was made in collaboration with his friend and muse, Lady Gaga. Koons created her album cover ‘Artpop’, which shows Lady Gaga simulating a sexual relationship with one of the artist’s famous mirrored spheres. Jeff Koons’s biography was written by Anne De Favari, Giulia Frate and Guido Freschi from the Marco Polo Classical High School during a work experience placement at Palazzo Grassi.
