Contemporary art, by definition, evolves with the rhythm of the present moment, often anticipating the future. Although traditional forms of art continue to survive (painting, sculpture and photography), the instruments used constantly evolve and ideas are renewed. The technological revolution has also impacted the art world. The diffusion of televisions in the 1960s inspired many artists, who began to use these luminous boxes to shape their ideas. Nam June Paik was one of the pioneers of Video Art. In 1968, the artist inserted into his work for the first time televisions that transmit broken up images and distorted messages. Since this moment, art and video technology combine the ideas and sensibility of artists with the new languages of the media. The TV screen has become the new ground on which the artist represents what he wants, and modifies it as he sees fit.
